Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Do I have to have experience?

A: No, we’ll gladly teach you any and everything you want to know. We have a bootcamp to learn all of our Transie duties, hangouts to spitball new floorwalker lines, pair people up to learn spotlights / light board / sound equipment, stitch n bitch parties to work on costuming skills, folks who love to help with makeup skills, and a private Discord where you can ask for help or brainstorm new ideas at any time.

Q: Do I have to buy my own costumes and props

A: Cast has sets of all props to share, but you’re welcome to use your own pending prior approval (the answer is usually yes lol). Costumes are your own responsibility for the most part, but we do have a few shared pieces (Riff and Maggie’s space suit, Columbia’s tailcoat and top hat, and Rocky’s wraps to name a few) as well as backups of some pieces, but these vary in size and quality, and shouldn’t be relied on for every show. Costumes are expected to be screen accurate and laundered regularly, but there’s no shortage of help on cast to get you there, be it learning costume care, how to make it, or even just having a thrifting buddy.

Q: Can I start on core immediately?

A: No, we all start as Transylvanian, Tech, Grip, or Floorwalker. Once your trainer and the director have cleared you where you started, you’re welcome to start working on a Core character alongside one of our Core Trainers. For most people this is around 6 months, but can be as short as 3. It all depends on how often you’re present, how fast you learn everything, and how much effort you put in.

Q: I’m starting as a Transylvanian. What all do I need?

A: A black blazer, black non-jean pants (or black shorts/skirts for most Summer shows), a gay button up shirt, black closed toe shoes you can run and dance in, three random loud accessories, and at least three colors of face paint. Everything can be thrifted or picked up at the dollar store, and if you need help or recommendations, one of our Transie Trainers can help you out.

Q: Does Tech/Grip have to wear anything in particular?

A: Nope! Some folks prefer solid black, some go for neon crop tops and micro shorts. Wear whatever you can move safely and comfortably in for the duration of setup, show time, and teardown.

Q: Do cast members get paid?

A: No, all of the money made from shows and prop packs goes back into the cast to buy more prop pack supplies, upgrade and replace props and tech, put diesel in the Bastardmobile, and make donations throughout the year.

Q: Do I have to be at EVERY show and rehearsal?

A: No, we have separate RSVPs for every event and rehearsal. Your first month we would like to see you at all rehearsals and shows so you know what to expect at each venue, but after that, we aim to see everyone once per quarter at minimum. We do like seeing everyone as much as possible, but we also understand that everyone has a life outside of here. You get out of cast what you put in.

Q: None of these answered my question. Where can I talk to a human?

A: Send us an email at losbastardoscasting@gmail.com for anything casting related!

Don’t have the time right now, but want to plan for the future?

Q4 Auditions will be 11/13 and Bootcamp will be 11/14

Rehearsals are the first, fourth, and fifth (as applicable) Fridays from 8pm-11pm

Shows are typically second Fridays and last Saturdays (although we do have a spike in shows in February, June, and of course October)
