THE OFFICIAL RULES OF LOS BASTARDOS:

AKA: “Don’t be a dick.”

Interested in taking the plunge, and selling your soul to Los Bastardos? Great! We love meeting new people! Since we know you are curious (or you would not be here) the skinny on what it takes to be a BASTARD lies below. It may be dense, but everything boils down to 2 very simple concepts…use common sense, and don’t be a dick. If you can handle that, you are well on your way!

  1. You will be held accountable for reading, understanding, knowing, and abiding by all of the cast rules, and return the signed rule agreement and photo release form when requested.
  2. You must be at least 18 years old to join and perform.
  3. Your audition will be to spend a 3 month probationary period with the cast. Acceptance or rejection will be based upon how well you are picking up the part, get along with the cast, and attendance.
  4. You must have reliable transportation, be it your own vehicle, Uber, Lyft, etc.
    • While Carpooling is convenient and encouraged when possible, a carpool falling through is not a viable reason to miss an event formerly committed to.
  5. You must have a reliable internet/cellular data source.
    • We communicate via online forums and you are expected to read the cast board updates as well as check the board prior to any rehearsals or shows to review for changes.
  6. Do not under any circumstances give out anyone’s personal information without their express permission.
  7. You understand that your image, likeness, voice, intellectual content, or physical materials you may have manufactured while on this cast for the benefit of the cast will remain cast property (i.e. photos, costumes, props, tech equipment, pre-show entertainment, etc.) and may be utilized for promotional, entertainment, or training purposes.
  8. You may not perform in a way that endangers you, the audience, or other cast members. If you require accommodation(s), please reach out so we can discuss options for you to proceed safely. This includes both permanent and temporary limitations.
  9. Behave in a professional manner both on and off cast time. Take into consideration how you are representing not just yourself but also Los Bastardos in both online spaces and physical events. Your behavior reflects directly upon us.
  10. You will join as either Transylvanian or Tech. Immediate Core positions are not available, regardless of experience.
    • After the trainers are satisfied with your performance on Transie, Tech, or Floorwalker, you may be asked to understudy another part.
    • Your performance and costumes must be stage ready and cleared prior to your debut.
  11. You must be willing to work on your part outside of rehearsals and show times, help advertise/flyer, and commit to other cast functions as required.
  12. ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY. Los Bastardos requires Friday and Saturday nights from approximately 8:00pm until whenever you are released. This can be anywhere from 10:00pm to 5:00am.
    • You likely will not be required each Friday and Saturday.
    • Cast call time will be listed on the cast board for each event.
    • The events will be posted and open for RSVP at least 3 months in advance.
    • You will be required to have attendance updated 3 weeks prior to the event.
  13. CONTRIBUTION & COMMITMENT. Do what you say you will do, or you will not be depended upon. If you would like to volunteer to do something, have a relevant opinion, a helpful skill, or would like to learn something, speak up.
  14. POLITICS. We will do everything in our power to help you succeed, but will not be taken advantage of. We have rules in place to protect everyone involved, and standards to ensure we are always putting on the best show we can. If standards are not met it will be relayed in a fair manner in relation to where improvement is needed.
  15. RESPECT. This cast serves as a family to many and we treat it as such. Even though disagreements are inevitable, be cordial and have respect for one another. Do not talk down to or act disrespectfully towards one another. If you have an issue with someone/something, please talk to one of your cast leaders, and we will get it sorted like adults.
  16. DRAMA. Don’t start it. This includes, but is not limited to: fighting, gossiping, harassing, mocking, talking about cast business with non-cast, etc. If you have differing opinions or issues to discuss with another cast member, it does not need to occur in front of the audience or the theatre staff.
  17. CONSENT. Consent is mandatory for audience, staff, and performers alike. Do not touch anyone in any capacity without consent. Do not show anyone sexually explicit material without their consent. Rocky is a place that can be sexual in nature, but that does not entitle you to be in anyone’s personal space. If anyone is not extending the same respect to you, flag security or a director immediately.
  18. ATTITUDE. If you have a problem with how something has proceeded please let the person in charge of that area of performance know and it will be discussed privately. Do not whine if you do not get your way.
  19. HYGIENE. Clean yourself and your costumes regularly. Bathe with soap, wash and comb your hair, put on deodorant, brush your teeth, and wear clean clothes to rehearsals, events, and shows.
  20. COMMUNICATION. An up-to-date cell phone number and email address is required, as is being accessible and staying on site once we arrive at the venue.
  21. ALCOHOL & DRUGS. If substances negatively affect your performance or behavior in any way you may be pulled from performing in that or future shows. Do not arrive nor become too intoxicated to perform your duties safely and accurately.
  22. COSTUMES & MAKEUP. You must have your own costumes and makeup before you get to perform. This includes any accessories and shoes necessary for your role. Hair and makeup must be ready before arriving at the venue unless otherwise specified in the event.
  23. FLOORWALKERS. The only people allowed to shout callback lines during the show are those who have been cleared to floorwalk.
    • Do not interrupt the pre-show unless pre-arranged and pre-approved.
    • Do not floorwalk from the stage unless specified in your script
      • (ex: transies during Sweet T)
  24. TECH. If a Tech asks for assistance, please assist immediately. They will not ask unless they need it.
  25. CAST ONLY MEANS CAST ONLY. Only cast is allowed during set up, tear down, rehearsals, cast meetings, and cast functions. Friends or significant others will not be permitted unless otherwise specified on the event.
  26. SEX. Sex is not allowed on cast time, at rehearsal spaces or on the venue’s property at any time for any reason. This includes rehearsals, show times, events, or any other designated cast time. Indecent exposure is a criminal offense.
  27. ONLINE FORUMS. Make sure you have access to, can post in, and have notifications turned on for the cast board. We have several online forums for advertisement and communication purposes. Join the public and cast boards and please utilize them responsibly and civilly.
  28. CAST MEETINGS. All cast must attend, participate, and pay attention during cast meetings. These will include issues to address before future shows. Cast meetings are after each show and at some rehearsals. If there are special circumstances where you will miss a meeting, let us know in advance.
  29. AUDIENCE, NON-ROCKY PATRONS, & LOBBY BEHAVIOR. Do not be hateful to the audience or other theatre patrons. The theatre may have non-Rocky clientele as well, and our job as a professional organization is to keep them coming back. Respect and courtesy is due to all patrons. Honor all staff requests, keep the lobby clear, and the line quiet.
  30. CAST BUSINESS. Do not discuss cast business with non-cast. This includes any medium/platform. Non-cast includes but is not limited to former cast, friends, roommates, family, audience, online buddies, etc.
  31. LEAVING CAST. If you wish to leave or to go on hiatus, please let us know ahead of time. All cast items must be returned prior to your departure. Return to cast will be discretionary and based upon prior performance.

OTHER RULES. Just because it is not officially a rule does not mean that your actions do not have consequences. Consequences will be determined by the severity of the action(s). Please use discretion and conduct yourself accordingly.

Although being on Los Bastardos is a lot of work, it is also a lot of fun (otherwise we wouldn’t spend innumerable hours of our lives here). Take this time to mingle, make friends, and see the show from a different angle. Thank you for your interest in becoming a part of Los Bastardos!
